Microsoft has included an update for Windows XP that resolves the issue in advisory 2963983.

By now, you have probably heard of the US-Cert Advisory alerting you to an Internet Explorer security vulnerability outlined in Microsoft Security Advisory 2963983.

Microsoft is scheduled to post an update today at noon CDT to resolve the vulnerability per the SANS Internet Storm Center, and the patch details indicate Windows XP Service Pack 3 is vulnerable which may mean they could update XP systems, something they said they would not do.

Microsoft offers workarounds in their article, but most users will not feel comfortable installing the Enhanced Mitigation Toolkit, or running a command from an elevated command prompt to unregister dll files. This is probably as good a time as ever to install and learn to use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as your primary internet browser.
